Who We Are
Founded in 2008, Canadian Roots Exchange is a national Indigenous youth-led organization. We envision a future where Indigenous youth are empowered and connected as dynamic leaders in vibrant and thriving communities. We collaborate with communities to provide programs, grants and opportunities that are grounded in Indigenous ways of knowing and being and designed to strengthen and amplify the voices of Indigenous youth.
CRE is a workplace that puts its employees and community first. We are a living wage employer and believe in prioritizing a healthy work-life balance. We provide opportunities for flexible working hours, time off for ceremony and other life responsibilities and we actively respond to the accessibility needs of those who work with us. We are a results-oriented working environment, choosing to focus on achieving objectives, rather than promoting the status quo.
Purpose of Position
Over the past few years here at CRE (Canadian Roots Exchange), we have been running various policy programs with the goal of creating space for new leadership and providing resources and tools for youth voices to create impactful change. Since starting to run our policy programs we have also been able to run various exciting engagements. Beginning this summer, we will be leading an engagement on the action plan to achieve the objectives of UNDRIP (within Justice Canada). Our engagement activities will take place from September-November 2022 and will include a variety of methods of engagement (including circles, and a hackathon). Each component of this engagement will include guidance from an advisory committee, and our engagement framework. In addition to our internal project team, we will also be hiring a part-time Indigenous Research and Engagement Assistant who will support throughout the project.
Your Impact
This role may require the successful candidate to travel 1-2 times a year within Canada, with periodic evening and weekend work. CRE will cover the pre-approved cost of travel associated with this role. Please note, some weeks you may work less than 10 hours, and others may be less. Accurately tracking and submitting weekly hours will be the responsibility of the selected applicant.
